| Concerning your article "The New 'Holy War' Against Sex and Violence" [April 18], I believe the majority of people are offended by the explicit sex and violence we see on television. I agree with John Hurt that we should have an alternative to turning off the TV set. If the networks won't listen, I say hit them where it really hurts-in the pocketbook! |

| TV programs containing excessive sex and violence do contribute to a pernicious moral and intellectual climate in society. Even those who contend that such programs are harmless must at least tacitly recognize the power and influence of the written word.
Otherwise, they would never write letters, articles, books and TV scripts. |

| The threatened boycotts, protestations and outright disgust are perceived (by the networks) as emanating from certain half-sane fringe groups. I belong to no religious group, but the state of TV today leaves me shocked and sickened. It requires eternal vigilance just so the kids can have a little entertainment. |

| I am sick of hearing about Donald Wildmon. "Moral Majority" and those like them who know what the rest of us should think and
watch. Anyone who finds their actions attractive should tune in some of their own programming sometime. In my area, we have a 24-hour all-religion cable channel, religious talk shows, game shows, kids shows and movies, and you have never in your life seen such bland, boring, one-sided and sterile programs! |

| These fanatics want control over our politicians, what we read, what we see in movies and on TV, even what consenting adults do
in the privacy of their own homes. I only pray that the "Moral Majority" remains the ignorant minority. |

| Please send me a copy of the Wildmon boycott list and I will see to it that my fellow townspeople do their best to buy everything on it! Freedom of speech is an inalienable right. I need no kooks to tell me what I can hear, see or read. |
| Corporate Clout on PBS | Doc Jarden - , |
| John Weisman's "TV Update" item [April 18] concerning a recent meeting of PTV executives contained several serious inaccuracies Two of the four executives mentioned as being present-PBS president Lawrence Grossman and WETA president Ward Chamberlin-were not there. More damaging is the suggestion that corporations or ad agencies can control the programs they underwrite. This would violate the very principles on which public television is based principles that our stations, underwriters and viewers fortunately understand. |
